How it goes
Agree the thesis with your supervisor early
Your approves the thesis title, and nothing moves until they do. Each department sets its own graduation sessions and deadlines, published on its site: find yours the semester before.
Apply on Uniweb inside the window
The application has four parts: the thesis details (title, title in English, keywords, supervisor), the AlmaLaurea questionnaire, your supervisor's approval of the title, and the application itself, for the session you choose. All of it must be done before midnight on the last day of the window.
Say this at the counter
“Professore, può approvare il titolo della tesi su Uniweb?”
Professor, could you approve my thesis title on Uniweb?
Pass the last exam in time
Every exam in your study plan must be passed at least fifteen days before the graduation session begins, and your fees must be in order.

The proclamation
The commission gives the final mark and proclaims you. The diploma, an A3 certificate in a red envelope, is usually handed over there and then: one copy, in Italian. Keep it flat and keep it safe.
Then: the permit after the degree
A study permit ends with study. After graduating you can register with the Centro per l'Impiego, the public employment office, for a twelve-month permit to look for work; with a job offer, the study permit can be converted into a work permit instead. Plan it before the old permit expires.

What actually goes wrong
Collected from students who hit these. This section is the reason to read the page twice.
Missing the Uniweb window
Late applications wait for the next session, often months away, and so does everything that depends on the degree: a job contract, a master's elsewhere, the permit after graduation.
A permit that expires the month you graduate
Check the expiry date against your session. The conversion or the job-seeking permit has to be asked for while you are still legally here.
