Not pro-rata. Registering in October still costs the full €700 and still expires on 31 December. This is the single most expensive timing mistake a new student can make.
How it goes
Give notice on the flat three months ahead
A student contract renews for another full term unless you give notice at least three months before it ends. Leaving earlier than the end date needs a serious reason and three months' notice, by registered letter.

Hand the flat back so the deposit comes back
The deposit is returned at the end, once the flat's condition has been checked. Walk through it with the landlord, photograph every room, read the meters, hand over every key, and leave an for the refund in writing.

Before you go, send the Comune the declaration of transfer of residence abroad, with your address in your new country and a phone number and email. It removes you from Padova's register properly instead of leaving you on it at an address you no longer live at.
Know when your health cover ends
Voluntary registration runs for the calendar year and ends on 31 December, wherever you are by then.

If you worked, your last employer's CU arrives the following spring. Leave an email address that will still work. If you file from abroad as a non-resident, the form is Redditi PF, not the 730.

Download your certificates from and pack the diploma: there is one copy. Anything you need from Padova later takes longer from another country.
Close the bank account last
Wait until the deposit and your last salary have arrived. A closed account is where refunds go to get lost.
